Nikos Lagousakos

Nikos Lagousakos, originally Greek but born in Australia started his dance studies in Athens and continued in Amsterdam graduating with a Bachelor in Choreography from the School For New Dance Development (SNDO) of the Theaterschool.

After graduating he worked as an assistant choreographer and assistant mass choreographer for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. That brought him with  the same role in Italy working for the Winter Olympics of Turin in 2006. The same year at the Paralympic Games he was one of the choreographers of the Opening Ceremony.

After having choreographed numerous Sport Ceremonies like the 2006 World Championship of Fencing in Turin, The European Championsip of Taekwondo in 2008 in Rome and The Opening Ceremony of the 13th World Championship of  the FINA Aquatics ROMA 2009, he is known for bringing a versatility into  mass choreography trying to break the barriers between stadium theater and sport ceremonies, dancetheater and contemporary dance.

From 2006 till 2010 he collaborated with the Italian company Studio Festi www.studiofesti.it. and choreographed various shoes in Kenya, Istanbul, Munich, and numerous italian cities.

After having worked with more than 60.000 volunteer and professional performers, dancers and actors, in 2009 he founded the PLITHOS dance company with which he put on stage the non solo series, a contemporary dance performance shown in various festivals in Italy.

The last two years find him more involved in Opera, working for several productions in prestigious festivals and theatres in Europe.

He periodically gives kinesiology (movement awareness & stage presence) workshops to singers and actors. In October 2011 he was invited by the Nederlands Opera Studio to give a Masterclass.

From January till May 2012 he will be teaching Choreography & Performance at the USC of Los Angeles and will be the Director of the annual Dance Show.

In August 2012 he will collaborate again with director Damiano Michieletto for the new production of The Salzburg Festival, La Boheme seeing Anna Netrebko as Mimi and Nino Machaidze in the role of Musetta.
